Know Bees & Honey

What are bees?

Bees are flying insects. There are 20,000+ bee species worldwide.

Bees are the world’s most important pollinators. Bees collect nectar and pollen from flowers. Pollen sticks to their bodies. Transferred between flowers → fertilization

Without bees, ecosystems and food systems collapse.

How is honey made?
Honey is processed flower nectar.

  1. 🌸 Nectar collection

    • Worker bees suck nectar from flowers

    • Stored in a special “honey stomach”

  2. 🔬 Enzyme transformation

    • Enzymes break sucrose into glucose & fructose

  3. 🏠 Depositing in comb

    • Nectar placed into hexagonal wax cells

  4. 💨 Water evaporation

    • Bees fan wings to reduce water content

    • Nectar becomes thick honey (~17–18% water)

  5. 🧱 Capping

    • Cells sealed with wax

    • Honey is now shelf-stable
